Southampton Airport (SOU)
Southampton Airport is located just one mile outside of Southampton and is highly accessible, which may explain why it is so popular with travellers heading to other parts of the UK and Europe. Originally an RAF base, the airport has been there since the 1930s but has now been operating as a full scale commercial airport for quite some years.
Owned and operated by BAA, Southampton Airport is one of the smallest in the UK and yet handles over 2 million passengers every year. At the moment, airlines fly to over 40 destinations from the airport but there are plans to potentially extend that given that the nearest alternatives are in London and the amount of people travelling through it seem to be increasing every year.
Southampton Airport only has one terminal at the moment and it is all on one floor but there are plans in place for a £7 million expansion over the next few years. However, the facilities currently there are comprehensive and of an excellent quality.
